Singer Rihanna has been named as the new face of Parisian fashion house Balmain for the Spring/Summer 2014, ditching their usual fashion models for a celebrity face. Rihanna has had many fashionable links in the past as the face of a Gucci charity collection and she has previously designed for high street store River Island. Two campaign images have been unveiled, one which features the singer outfitted in a pink robe dress completed with gold jewels, and another close-up shot in which she wears a denim off-the-shoulder look also with piles of gold accessories.

Speaking on  selecting Rihanna for the campaign, head designer of Balmain, Olivier Rousteing, commented that she lights up in front of the camera and owns it:

“In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world.”

Calling her an “icon”, Olivier says that it has made him extremely happy to see Rihanna wearing his creations because it feels like his vision has fully come to fruition:

“When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete.”

The campaign was captured by photography duo Inez & Vinoodh, with Atelier Franck Durand offering creative direction and styling by Mel Ottenberg.
