Celebrities have the power to make or break new trends, and not just on the red carpet. While designers famously fall over themselves to get the latest It girl into their signature gown for highly publicised events like the Oscars, our celeb-obsessed culture means that we’re just as interested in what our favourite stars are wearing during their down time. So from the latest film premieres to popping out to get a latte, stars of stage and screen, on the back of just one paparazzi snap, can turn a shoe into a must-have for other celebrities, and for us mere mortals too.
Whether you’re looking for lo-fi sneakers, or show stopping heels, you know you can trust the A-listers to tell you what’s hot right now. We’ve taken a look at some of the biggest footwear success stories of 2012, and the celebs that helped transform these shoes into stars in their own right.
Converse All Star Ox
Hi-top or low cut, they’ve been the sneaker of choice for rock stars, punks and A-listers for decades, and this year Converse launched a whole new range designed to suit daintier feet. The Converse All Star Ox, now available online from Size?, is a slimmed down version of the original All Star classic, with a thinner ‘low profile’ sole for those who like a more flexible feel. They’re also cut a little lower to the ankle, making them perfect for slipping into in bare feet during spring and summer. Amy Adams was one of the first stars to step out in a pair, and they’ve since gone on to become a hipster favourite.
Manolo Blahnik Hangisi Satin Pump
Manolo Blahnik worked his magic again this year, creating the It star shoe of the moment with his Hangisi pump. Being a red carpet favourite label for decades, Sex and the City transformed Manolo into a household name almost overnight, with Carrie Bradshaw being something of an addict when it comes to his signature heels. There isn’t an A-lister on the planet without a pair in their wardrobe, and when the Hangisi Satin Pump arrived on the scene, a new must-have was born. First spotted on Jessica Biel, they’ve since graced the feet of, (no surprises here) Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kate Beckinsale, to become the red carpet hit of the season.
Christian Louboutin Pigalle Strass Pump
Famed for their eye-catching lipstick red soles, Louboutins have been a fashionistas footwear staple for what seems like forever. The trademark sole hasn’t stopped Louboutin from doing his fair share of experimenting with shapes and styles however, and his footwear preview shows are always one of the most highly-anticipated in the fashion world. This year he did it again, creating a statement shoe with an upper that’s as bold and unmissable as the standout soles he’s famous for. The diamante-encrusted Pigalle Strass pump was first spotted on trendsetter Blake Lively last month, and they’ve since shown up on J-Lo, Gisele and Halle Berry on her recent appearance on The Tonight Show.
