When you hear Rihanna’s name in the news lately, it’s usually about her 7th album in the past 7 years or her recently rekindled relationship with Chris Brown. She’s making headlines this week though for her new fashion reality show set to premiere on Style Network next year!
The network, which is also home to Giuliana & Bill and Jerseylicious, announced in a statement on Wednesday that it has ordered 10 hour-long episodes of Styled to Rock, which will feature 12 young fashion designers that Rihanna will handpick. The designers will be given a weekly challenge during each episode that involves the task of styling an “A-list star,” and this guest celebrity will then pick the designer who “best achieves their vision.” The winner will advance to the next week of competition. Rihanna will also enlist the help of top fashion experts to serve as mentors to the designers.
The 24-year-old Barbadian singer seems excited about the chance to showcase her love of fashion. In a statement released about her new show, she stated,
Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career. I am so excited to partner with Style Network and share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work.
The network says the show will be executive-produced by Rihanna under her real name, Robyn Rihanna Fenty. They haven’t yet announced any names of fashion experts that will serve as mentors or which celebrities will let themselves be dressed by the contestants. We’re guessing Rihanna, along with the help of a production company headed by Will Smith that has also signed on to produce the show, will be able to nab some pretty big stars.
Styled to Rock is actually the American version of a British show of the same name that Rihanna appeared in over the summer, but it sounds a lot like Project Runway and basically every other fashion reality show on television now. Will the constant stream of new reality shows ever come to a end? It might be somewhat entertaining for a while, but just because Rihanna puts you on TV for a few hours doesn’t mean you’re going to be the next Marc Jacobs! What do you think of the singer’s new show? Do you foresee it launching the career of the next major fashion designer?
