Anna Sui is set to team up with surf brand O’Neill for a 16-piece capsule collection, with each piece retailing for under just $100. Speaking about the new designs, Sui commented that she felt the collaboration was a perfect partnership because she has always been attracted to the carefree spirit of the surf company and she felt her own aesthetic translated very well to match that:
“I have always been drawn toward the Californian free-spirited lifestyle, which is at the core of the O’Neill brand. My Bohemian style translates into their surf culture and sportswear perfectly.”
Kari Johnson, general manager of O’Neill’s, commented that the designer was a top choice to work with and the partnership was a very easy process:
“Anna Sui has always been a source of inspiration for the O’Neill line, so when we were brainstorming partners, she was at the top of our list.The collaboration was brought to life with such ease and enthusiasm from both brands and just felt right.”
Opening up on the celebrities she’d like to dress one day, Anna recently said that she aspires to see her clothing on the likes of Emma Watson and Adele, while she also has high hopes for her menswear designs and has already had some star customers:
“I’ve never dressed Emma Watson, and I’ve never dressed Adele, which I’d like to. Also, I just reintroduced menswear and the first men’s customers I ever had the first time round were Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran and Mick Jagger, when he had just hosted Saturday Night Live. Hopefully, this new collection will attract the new generation of rock stars.”
