Designer Peter Pilotto is about the reach the mainstream with his first major designer collaboration, teaming up with Target for a Spring 2014 collection that will land in stores in February 2014. A preview shows print rompers, bright dresses and cropped tops teamed with relaxed trainers, also covered in striking prints. Although the designer’s usual pieces retail for high luxurious prices, the label hope to bring their handcrafted touch to the cheaper price point. Co-creative director Christopher De Vos commented:
“Even if it’s a cheaper price point, it was mutually agreed with Target that the collection had to look very Peter Pilotto. We chose a couple of prints and used seams to achieve an engineered color silhouette.”
He added that they were excited to work on the idea of creating a dress for the line:
“There’s something so iconic about a dress, and that’s what excited us most when we started, it’s also what we thought had the most commercial viability.”
De Vos commented that their designs are all about seeing the craft close up because they pour so much effort in to the small details of their pieces:
“The luxury of our collection is to see it, to confront the craft of it, and understand the layers of embroidery and lace. When you’re in front of it, you feel the full energy of the pieces.”
Peter Pilotto for Target will feature 70 designs in total. Watch this space for more previews!
