Italian designer Roberto Cavalli is known to be quite vocal about his personal opinions and in a new interview he hasn’t held anything back. Cavalli has commented that American designer Michael Kors steals most of his ideas, some from Cavalli and even more from other fashion houses. Roberto adds that he often points out this fact via his Instagram account because he hates to see Kors working this way:
“He’s one of the biggest copy designers in the world, I just want to tell him to stop copying me! Stop! All the time I write those comments on Instagram. He copies everybody!”
Cavalli also takes aim at American style in general, stating that “they all dress the same” and for this reason, Cavalli thinks Kors manages to make money from stealing ideas and making them his own:
“Americans like Michael Kors! And you love so many other designers who do that – he’s not American fashion. He is international fashion made in America. It’s not fair. The American women, they all dress the same.”
The designer even says he launched his own diffusion line in a bid to copy his own work because he felt everyone else was plagiarizing his collections already:
“Before I [launched] Just Cavalli, I started to see how many people around me were copying me. There was Cavalli style all over, and I said, ‘Why am I giving so many opportunities to other people? Maybe I should just start to copy myself.’ So I started Just Cavalli to copy myself.”
