Three of London’s most promising design talents have given the traditional Barbie doll a new fashionable makeover. Barbie’s new look will go on display in the toy shop section of London department store Selfridges, clearly displaying Barbie’s new amazing wardrobe. The colourful pieces were created by Sister by Sibling, Nasir Mazhar and Fred Butler. Featuring couture-esque intricacy and extravagance, Barbie’s outfits are nothing short of jaw-dropping and would make Lady Gaga fly in to a fit of jealousy!
Speaking on the designs, Fred Butler commented that his inspiration came directly from his childhood:
“I basically spent the majority of my childhood playtime making outfits for my Barbie, the fascination never went so when I eventually studied fashion design, I used to create mock-up shapes on a Barbie.”
Selfridges head of accessories and childrenswear, Lisa Moscow, sounded extremely excited about the original idea, stating that they are “truly special” pieces:
“These one-off dolls are something truly special, and a testament to how relevant and pioneering Barbie continues to be.”
