We should have seen it coming, yet somehow, we didn’t! Miley Cyrus is the brand new face of Marc Jacobs for the label’s Spring/Summer 2014 campaign. A preview image shows a gloomy looking Miley dressed in a dark ensemble with her signature pixie cut in a darker shade, posing with two other models who appear nearby – however the focal point is on the controversial singer. Miley and Marc have been teaming up regularly lately – the model attended his Fashion Show in NYC previously and later appeared on Jacobs’ charity t-shirt completely nude. Marc’s close work partner Robert Duffy previously commented on Miley:
“[Cyrus] has been a friend of mine for a while and I think she’s beautiful, she really has a very good, solid head on her shoulders. I adore her.”
The ad campaign also marks a change in direction for the company who usually use only Juergen Teller shot images in their campaigns. This photo was shot by photographer David Sims and it is a dramatic change in style from their usual campaign imagery. Katie Grand worked as a stylist for the new images.
It has been quite a while since Jacobs enlisted a celebrity face for his label, but he has previously used Victoria Beckham and Dakota Fanning in past company campaigns. With her tattoos on display and new image being played up for the camera, Miley’s transformation is complete and she is likely over the moon that she has landed her first fashion campaign, cementing her status as an icon right now.
