Givenchy’s head designer Riccardo Tisci has just confirmed that he is set to design a limited edition footwear line in collaboration with Nike. Although the project is in its early stages of development and there are minimal details available as of yet, Tisci will create footwear and even possibly clothing under the new sportswear collaboration. Each piece will come with the logo ‘Nike R.T.’ which was debuted by the designer himself, who wore the logo printed on a t-shirt as he confirmed the news. Tisci commented on what working with Nike means to him:
“For me, Nike represents a lot: my childhood, America. When I got the call, it sounded so strong, so perfect for my DNA. It’s a big honor for me, especially because they’re always working with sports people.”
On what he plans to put in to the new designs, Tisci says he hopes to bring him own sense of style to a fresh audience:
“I couldn’t bring them technology, instead I brought my style, what people like me for and what the young generation follows me for.”
Although there are no previews of the new designs available yet, Riccardo did try to describe his artistic vision for the collection, starting simply that we can expect something “strong without being loud.” This isn’t his first collaboration – he previously designed a pair of limited edition basketball shoes for renowned brand Converse. This hotly anticipated new collaboration collection is just one of many we’re likely to look forward to in 2014 – watch this space!
