Beyoncé has had quite the year already! Among other things, the singer has already premiered a documentary about her life, performed at the Super Bowl, signed up to star in H&M’s summer campaign, and announced her upcoming tour since the start of 2013. Now, she’s taking on yet another project. Beyoncé is teaming up with Gucci to produce a global concert to raise funds for female empowerment. She’ll also headline the show, which will take place in London on June 1.
The concert will be called The Sound of Change Live and will also feature performances by Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding, Haim, Iggy Azalea, Rita Ora, Laura Pausini, John Legend, and Timbaland. In addition to the musical entertainment, inspirational short films and stories about women’s issues around the globe will be shared with the audience. The show will take place at Twickenham Stadium and will be produced by some of the same people responsible for putting together Live Earth and Live Aid.
Gucci is providing the funds needed to put on the concert so that all the money made from the sale of tickets will go towards charities supporting women’s issues. Those who purchase tickets will be able to choose which charity their sale will go to, including organizations fighting for better education, justice, and health for women.
Beyoncé, who is a co-founder of Chime for Change is serving as the artistic director for The Sound of Change Live, says, “Our goal is to call for change for girls and women in the loudest voice possible.” “I am excited for us to come together on June 1 to bring the issues of education, health and justice for girls and women to the world stage,” she continued.
Fellow Chime for Change co-founder and Gucci creative director Frida Giannini issued the same call to arms for the fight for women’s rights. She stated, “We have reached a significant moment in the history of girls’ and women’s empowerment and now is the time for change.” She hopes the concert “will help the voices calling for change to become so loud that they cannot be ignored.
There’s no doubt that Beyoncé’s star power and the positive purpose of the concert will draw more even more top-notch acts before the event rolls around. With such a powerful company and such an influential performer backing this show, the concert is sure to be one that no one will forget! Don’t worry if you can’t make it London for the show – the concert will also be broadcast globally.
