Kim Kardashian recently graced the red carpet at the 2014 MET Gala alongside her other half, rapper Kanye West. The reality star wore a custom strapless navy gown which featured a high leg slit by Lanvin which she teamed with t-bar heels and a simple black belt. However, Kim was seen exiting her hotel right before the event with a chunky statement belt and coordinating bracelets – so why didn’t she wear them on the red carpet? She has explained why she quickly ditched her accessories in exchange for more minimalist pieces. Kim wrote:

”It was such a tough decision on how to accessorise. I left the store with a chunky belt and leather cuffs. We were going back and forth for hours if the chunky belt was right. In the car on our way there we got a glimpse of the red carpet, and I decided the accessories were a bit too ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ and I wanted to go for something simple and elegant.”

As the theme for the night was inspired by Charles James, a designer who rose to prominence for his work in the 40s and 50s, Kim says she felt the new accessories just worked a lot better with the night’s overall vibe. Kim says she was happy with the results of her final look and thrilled to be on the red carpet for such a prestigious event:

”To me it felt more classic and fit the Forties theme better … Overall I thought it was the right decision and I loved the way everything came together.”
