The CFDA has long been one of the main proponents of the fight against counterfeiting in the fashion industry. eBay has been helping the organization with the cause since 2011 when the pair first teamed up for their You Can’t Fake Fashion campaign. Through the project, the CFDA and eBay sell one-of-a-kind canvas bags created by various fashion designers to benefit the CFDA Foundation, which fights counterfeit products and supports the sale of authentic designer goods.
The campaign is running a little differently this year though. The bags will now be sold through auctions on eBay, with the starting price set at $100 for each bag. There will also be a standard canvas CFDA tote bag available for the “Buy It Now” price of $50.
More than 90 fashion designers signed on to create tote bags, backpacks, and clutches for the You Can’t Fake Fashion collection, including Diane von Furstenberg, Ralph Lauren, Anna Sui, Judith Leiber, and Prabal Gurung. CFDA CEO Steven Kolb was thrilled that so many designers agreed to take part in the project. He believes their support will help protect “original design and the integrity of the fashion industry” by fighting for legal protection for intellectual property. He also stated that “educating shoppers about the dangers of counterfeits is now more important than ever,” which is also why it’s so important for the CFDA to have the support of both eBay and those designers who make up the fashion industry in this country.
