Head designer at British heritage label Burberry, Christopher Bailey, is taking on a whole new role at the company – he has just been named CEO. Bailey is taking over from Angela Ahrendts who has decided to move on to become Senior Vice President for retail and online stores at Apple. The designer was already announced to replace the previous CEO in October 2013 and has been working alongside Angela to understand the business before officially taking over. He commented on the transition:

”I am profoundly moved and humbled to be asked to take on the CEO role at this company that means so much to me. I also feel privileged to be keeping my role as chief creative officer, as I believe that creativity and innovation have been at the heart of our success in the last ten years and will be even more so in the decade ahead.”

Angela added that it has been a pleasure to work with the Burberry team for the past eight years and she is certain they will continue to grow the luxurious label to be even bigger than it is currently. She also compliments Bailey for his design work, stating that he is one of fashion’s most important creatives:

”It has been an honour to have partnered with [Burberry chairman] Sir John Peace and Christopher for the last eight years. I am confident that, with Sir John’s continued guidance and the executive team’s support, Christopher, as one of this generation’s greatest visionaries, will continue to lead Burberry to new heights.”
