J.C. Penney may not be the first store you plan to stop at when heading out for a day of shopping, but the retailer is trying hard to change that. We have to give them credit for their latest effort – enlisting Duro Olowu to design a collection for Spring 2013 seems like the perfect way to draw customers in!
It was announced a few months ago that the designer would bring his aesthetic to the struggling store. As with every decision J.C. Penney has made lately, everyone seemed skeptical as to whether or not the move would help. Judging by the newly released images of Olowu’s designs though, there’ll be plenty of shoppers waiting to get their hands on the collection.
The line is reminiscent of what Olowu typically shows on the runway, which means it includes plenty of bright colors and mixed prints. His looks for J.C. Penney are a perfect mix of modern colors and retro details, plus there are plenty of classic details and silhouettes, including ladylike full skirts, nipped-waist dresses, and tailored trousers. Pieces from Duro’s collections are usually priced around $1,000, but his line for J.C. Penney will range in price from $10 to $100 and will be released early next year.
