Jason Wu is soon about to debut his first collection as head designer at Hugo Boss. Jason is usually known for his elegant, glamorous ensembles and it looks as though he plans to mix his own tastes with the brand’s aesthetic. To introduce the world to his own vision of Hugo Boss, Jason has shot a short film starring several top models including Naomi Campbell. The new film will be unveiled at the upcoming New York Fashion Week and was captured by photography duo Inez & Vinoodh. He said that he was inspired by the original Hugo Boss HQ in Germany:

“When I first visited Hugo Boss in Germany, this is what the campus kind of looks like,’ he said. ‘Metzingen is a small town, and there are glass buildings and cubes rising from the middle of the woods. It’s a fashion-image piece that gives you a visual representation about the Hugo Boss woman I had in mind, and who she should be.”

Speaking on how he went about adapting his own designs to be a part of the already existing label, Jason comments that he learned about the company first before he could plan the future:

“The first order of business was to really dig into the DNA of the company. To go visit, to learn about the history of the company, to know where it came from, where it was yesterday, what it is today and what it can be tomorrow.”

He continues to design for his own mainline namesake label and admits it can be difficult at time to balance both design jobs:

“It’s challenging to have two jobs — a 24-hour day job and night job. It felt like it was the right time to take that next step and do something really different from my brand. It has a different look and shows my range as a designer.”
