Kanye West may have previously collaborated with Nike, but he’s now cutting ties and moving on with a new big deal that will see him partnering with rival sportswear company Adidas instead. Commenting on the news, Kanye says that he took the deal because he wants to provide for his family and he also aspires to be the biggest rapper turned designer yet – he believes it’s a “first”. He said:

“I took the adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family. Whatever is official, non-official, official-what y’all gonna see is I’m gonna be the Tupac of product. I’m gonna be the first hip-hop designer and because of that I’m gonna be bigger than Wal-Mart.”

However, Kanye isn’t totally loved up with the fashion industry at the moment. The rapper recently said that Louis Vuitton needs to be boycotted because of their high prices (doesn’t he wear Balmain regularly? He must not have seen the price tags!) and he even took a dig at Saint Laurent’s creative director Hedi Slimane. He said that he used to be friends with Slimane but while he respected the designer, he didn’t get the same love back. He commented:

“He was once a friend of mine, int he time of Christian Dior. And I used to wear his tight-ass jeans when I was ontour and get called names for it . . . And Hedi Slimane was a god who didn’t serve no bull(bleep) . . . But it takes a god to recognize another god. So when he told me you can come to my show, but you can’t come to see Phoebe [Philo] and you can’t come to see Riccardo [Tisci], that was odd. He tried to control me! He tried to tell me where I could go!”
