Design duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher de Vos are currently preparing to launch their extensive collaboration collection with Target, which will also go up for sale through Net-a-Porter (a select edit of just over 30 pieces will be available).  Opening up on the designs, De Vos commented that they were very flattered when the company approached them to collaborate over a year ago:

“Target is such a high profile company from the history of what they’ve done with other designers. We were really excited, it was such an honour to be approached.”

De Vos added that they used the collaboration as a chance to do something different with their designs and weren’t just going to rehash their old pieces:

“By doing [the collaboration] we really wanted to do something that we never did to that extent before. We loved the idea of that mixed look – you could wear your swimsuit or rash guard with your bottoms in the day then put on a skirt – a bit day-to-work, beach in between.”

He reveals that they did have to change the way they work because it wasn’t possible to make their usual pieces for a lower price point:

“In our mainline collection the prints are always placed and engineered for each garment, but in this case they had to be all over so it’s more economic for production.”

Pilotto commented that the time they had to work on the collection also added an element of excitement:

“That was a really interesting lesson actually, to work in that different frame. It was very exciting.”
