Bobbi Brown may be known for her cosmetics line, but the makeup artist is breaking into a new business. Brown is launching a line of eyeglasses and sunglasses for spring 2014 through a licensing agreement with Safilo Group.
Bobbi always wears a pair of thick-framed glasses and encourages other women to wear their glasses proudly as well. She even launched a makeup collection inspired by a pair of tortoiseshell glasses to show women how to get “standout eyes” when sporting specs. Brown says she loves to help women apply makeup in a way that makes them feel beautiful and believes eyewear is a natural extension to what she already does. She stated,
“I am excited to embark on this new journey with Safilo. I believe that makeup is a way for women to feel and look like themselves, only prettier and more confident. As a makeup artist, I have looked at women’s faces for over 20 years and believe that my beauty expertise will translate naturally into eyewear, identifying the best silhouettes and colors for a woman’s face shape, skin tone and lifestyle. This is a new, innovative approach to interpreting eyewear.”
Safilo echoed this sentiment and expressed their excitement for working with someone so dedicated to “celebrating a woman’s individuality.” They plan to create an eyewear collection with “a modern but classical feel” that will enhance “a woman’s own innate beauty.” Safilo CEO Roberto Vedovotto calls Brown a “makeup industry maverick” and says he can’t wait to spread the success her cosmetics brand has achieved.
Aside from a few books Bobbi Brown has released, this will be her first foray into a product category other than makeup. Will she include pairs of specs modeled after her own, or will she coordinate the frames with the makeup she designs? No additional info has been released about the line yet, so we’ll have to wait and see!
