Anna Sui has long been a fan of Coach bags, so she didn’t hesitate at all about working with the brand to create a few limited edition duffels. At the launch for the bags, Sui said she remembers when she used to envy her sister-in-law for having the original Coach duffel, or what she believes to be “the coolest bag one earth.” The designer couldn’t afford the bag at that point, so she was very happy when this project came along and she got to design her own personalized version of the bag.

Sui was given free reign to create bags that reflected everything about her. Coach creative director Reed Krakoff told her to make the duffel “as ‘Anna Sui’ as possible.” The brand also made sure they do could everything she wanted them to. It was a dream job for Anna because the brand has the facility to do anything she asked them for, which is not how the design process usually goes. It’s “always a whole struggle to get anything made,” but this was not the case with Coach.

With unlimited design possibilities, Sui lived up to the task of customizing the brand’s bag to her tastes. The $798 Legacy Anna Sui Dragonfly Large Duffle, described by Anna as “art nouveau” is made of black leather and lined with her signature floral fabric. The front features an intricate dragonfly motif, scroll details, and contrast stitching. The bag is accented with a long black leather tassel and dragonfly charm and comes with a matching wristlet.

As for Sui’s second bag, which she describes as a “hippie bag,” the Legacy Anna Sui Fleur De Lis Large Duffle retails for $1000 and is made of cognac leather. It’s finished with hand-tooled and hand-knotted details and features a pocket on the front accented with a fleur de lis motif. Like the other bag, it’s lined with floral fabric and comes with a matching tassel charm and wristlet.
