British label Burberry Prorsum has hit its stride, and head designer Christopher Bailey celebrates some of the label’s new signatures through the just released Pre-Fall 2014 collection. It may not be a completely fresh take on the label’s usual look, but Bailey’s collection is still current and as stunning as ever. Beautifully designed midi-pencil skirts are given a twist, paired with tucked-in architectural sketched t-shirts – almost street style inspired – it’s a casual elegant mix that works superbly and looks youthful.
Dresses range from a mint plunging midi chiffon look to a classic black lace ensemble, while Bailey adds some embellishment and new techniques to other looks finished in berry-shade autumnal colours, perfect for the season they’re intended. No Burberry collection would be complete without the label’s signature coats. A plum shade trench is timeless yet modern, crafted to hug the figure and look streamline. He also designed a boxy coat, splashed in an oversized floral print. Another wrap-style cocoon coat features in a tribal textured print.
Bailey’s use of different fabrics, impeccable tailoring and prints combine for a collection that is faultless – elegant, on the cusp of what’s current and yet, it stands out on its own and stays true to what has become a part of Burberry’s success story under the designer. An aesthetic that brings sophistication, an added quirky edge and modern fashion together in a perfect meld.
