American model Kate Upton’s career continues on an upward trajectory – she’s even recently made a move to film, starring in ‘The Other Woman’ with an all-star cast including Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann. Kate appears on the latest issue of V magazine, posing for the original peel-able cover. The front cover image appears on transparent plastic. She wears a Nicola Formichetti for Diesel denim jumpsuit and is covered partially by a floral print large V. Upon peeling back the first cover, a second is revealed – showing Kate is nothing but a bikini.
The image was captured by famed photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and styled by Formichetti. V’s editor Stephen Gan commented on his choice of cover girl:
“Each time I saw her at a shoot, she had become a bigger and bigger star, and her physique, more and more notorious. It has always intrigued me, as I’m sure it has to most readers, how someone gets embraced by the general public for taking their clothes off and loved by the fashion world for keeping them on.”
Kate commented on the shot, stating that she tries to “make all of her covers unique, even when in a bikini.” Speaking on the cover’s naughty headline question, “Why can’t Kate Upton keep her clothes on?”, Kate joked: “Because I don’t want to!”
Kate also responded to the comment made by Victoria’s Secret casting director Sophia Neophitou who said that the company would never work with her:
“I had just gotten my cover of Sports Illustrated that day, I wasn’t used to that kind of media swirl. I had never met her (Sophia), so it really came out of nowhere.” She went on to say that the cruel commentary was an “introduction to being in the spotlight and having people you’ve never met have an opinion of you.”
