Fashion critic Kelly Cutrone has made some disparaging remarks regarding celebrity couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and how much they influence the fashion industry. Kelly thinks people in the industry don’t really care about them or their fashion choices, and she thinks Kim’s style isn’t even particularly unusual, fashion-forward or experimental. She gave her opinion:

”I don’t think there’s one person who really works in the fashion industry who gives a flying f**k about Kanye West. The truth of the matter is that Kim Kardashian is not doing anything fresh in fashion, either. She’s not getting into the nitty-gritty, super avant-garde players. She’s not even wearing [Vivienne] Westwood yet.”

She clearly states that she thinks the couple don’t influence anything in the fashion industry, but may be making knock-offs more popular because she thinks those who look up to the celebrity couple can’t afford designer price tags:

”I think they have no influence in the fashion world whatsoever. I mean, most people who watch [Keeping Up with the Kardashians] can’t afford Givenchy. I don’t mean to be mean. Are [counterfeiters] on Canal St. benefiting from it? Probably, but that’s not the fashion world.”

She agrees that Kim and Kanye may have influence elsewhere, but she believes those who matter in fashion still aren’t won over by the couple, even if they did recently land a Vogue cover. She explained:

”Have Kim and Kanye had an impact on pop culture? Absolutely. Do I think that [Vogue editor-at-large] Hamish Bowles wakes up in the morning, calls [former Vogue editor-at-large] Andre Leon Talley and says, ‘Did you see those pants that Kanye was rocking on ‘SNL’?’ No.”
