Kristen Stewart is the current face of Balenciaga’s ‘Florabotanica’ scent and has gushed about meeting the fashion house’s former designer Nicolas Ghesquière for the first time. Kristen says she was working on a photo shoot aged just 14 when they first met and she was surprised to encounter someone in the fashion industry who wasn’t superficial:
“I did a photo shoot with Bruce Weber when I was 14 for Interview magazine. I met Nicolas Ghesquière. I was blown away — fashion became less superficial in my eyes, though it wasn’t my thing.”
Kristen says that the meeting left a lasting impression on her and it must have also for Nicolas because he called her a few years later to ask her to be the face of the company’s perfume. She says she always admired his creativity and she was very attracted to that quality which is why she now often wears his designs for events:
“A couple of years later, he called me up. He had stuck out [to me] as an artist. Fashion has the best and worst people. The gems stick out. He was a designer I wanted to be around. He was so creative. If I have to walk red carpets, if I have to be in fashion. Then I want to be with him.”
Nicolas may no longer design for Balenciaga, but we can expect to see his work debut for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week in the near future – his first collection is for Autumn/Winter 2014.
