This year’s Emmy Awards aired Sunday night, which means just one thing – stars got all dressed up just to walk the red carpet. Okay, so maybe the actors and actresses were there to find out who won awards too, but we were paying just as close attention to what they were wearing as what they were winning. Several trends emerged from the red carpet at the event, including red dresses, lace gowns, and metallic accents. Check out some of the most common colors, fabrics, and textures spotted on the 2012 Emmys red carpet.

Stars including Giuliana Rancic, January Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kathy Griffin opted for black gowns at the Emmy Awards this year. Some dresses were accented with lace and cutouts, while others gowns were spiced up with sparkles and sheer patches.

Red & Orange

Did Padma Lakshmi, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kat Dennings, Ginnifer Goodwin, Tina Fey, and Leslie Mann all decide to color coordinate with the red carpet? These stars and more chose various shades of red and orange to wear to the Emmys.

Blue & Green

From Jane Levy’s royal blue dress to Heidi Klum’s mint frock to Allison Williams’ green gown, stars couldn’t stay away from all shades of blue and green at this year’s Emmys. Maria Menounos, Julianne Hough, and Jennifer Westfeldt followed this trend too.

Several stars made sure they shined on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards! Sofia Vergara, Lucy Liu, and Kerry Washington all donned sequined dresses, while Hayden Pantettiere and Nicole Kidman chose gowns with sparkling accents.

Aside from all the popular colors seen on the red carpet at the Emmys, lace dresses made plenty of appearances as well. Amanda Peet, Kristen Wiig, and Portia de Rossi all opted for neutral lace ensembles, while Lena Dunham and Anna Chlumsky chose lace gowns in darker hues.
