Lovers of camouflage, crop tops and strong 90’s urban vibes beware: you might just fall in love with Rihanna’s second collection for high street store River Island. Delving deep in to her own personal style for the new collection, the offering is refined and fun with a relaxed sporty element that makes it casual and unfussy.
The new winter designs take a bite out of that prime hip-hop era which the singer herself sources much of her style inspiration: the 90s are alive again. Crop tops are one major feature, as are basketball shirts, ‘G4LIFE’ prints and another ‘RIRI’ print which reoccurs frequently. It’s probably not for everyone, but it’s a cohesive and a tight vision that captures the singer’s spirited essence perfectly. Speaking on the designs, co-designer Adam Selman said that the looks are layered:
“The way I approach winter style is to layer up summer clothes and Rihanna does the same, but there are coats and sweatshirts – those pieces were key. It’s a little more refined.”
It is yet to be confirmed if Rihanna will take over London Fashion Week as she did last season to debut the clothes on the catwalk before they hit stores, but one thing is for sure: it probably won’t last long once it hit the rails.
