We may be just a few days into the New York Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2014 collections, but already one strong beauty trend for the season has emerged. Bright, citrus tinted lips are where it’s at – paired with pastel shades for best effect. A bright matte orange showed up at Rag & Bone’s show, a succulent and tropical shade that was teamed with a nude, bare face to create a bold and balanced statement. Makeup artist for the show, Gucci Westman, commented on the lip choice:
“There was talk of a glossy mouth at one point, but I was like, ‘No, that’s definitely not a Rag & Bone girl. The clothes are quite pastel-y, so I wanted something that would really pop, one element of color. Red would be too pretty, pink is too sweet. The orange just looked really good with the clothes.”
The trend continued in a glossy version at Creautures Of The Wind, in a closer to strawberry shade that looked beautiful with a porcelain complexion. Prabal Gurung added a flirty light pink matte lipstick to complete his powdery 50’s inspired vision that perfectly accented the strongly sugar-coated vibe throughout. DKNY went for a blood orange colour on their models which added to their vibrant outfits and Kate Spade’s quirky collection looked even more beautiful with some stand-out makeup which included a gorgeous pink lip. Take a peek at the emerging trend below and get ahead by rocking this one early.
