Clearly a man of many talents, it recently emerged that Pharrell Williams’ latest project, a new scent named ‘Girl’, will pull in around $10 million in the first year alone. Pharrell worked with fashion label Comme des Garçons to create the fragrance which is actually unisex despite the name. Opening up on his scent, the singer commented that he was interested in learning from those who have already mastered the art of perfume creation because he likes each new project to be a new experience:

“When I do a collaboration with brands, I do them with notable masters, so that I can experience the true purpose of collaboration, which is to learn. So I only work with masters.”

Pharrell went in to the collaboration with one main desire – that the scent would have a heavy woody top note, something he has always appreciated in fragrances:

“I was enamoured by [Comme’s] ability to deliver wood to the masses in the way that they have.”

Explaining why he titled the perfume ‘Girl’ despite it being for both men and women, he says that because it is a collaboration with Comme des Garçons, the title balances out:

“Another way to say unisex. There should be no lines – I learned that from Comme des Garçons. Hence, Girl – for girls and boys.”

Reacting to how much money the company expect to make from the new perfume,  Adrian Joffe, chief executive office of Comme des Garçons Parfum, commented that it is astounding:

“That’s a lot more than we normally do, but this, we think, should be quite successful.”
