It may only be February, but 2013 is already turning out to be Rihanna’s year. The singer has had an eventful year so far – she won a Grammy, performed at the awards show, launched her fashion line, and turned 25 yesterday. She also announced her next big project yesterday…she’s collaborating with MAC Cosmetics on four complete collections of makeup!

Rihanna isn’t just slapping her name on a few products for the makeup brand. MAC is calling Rihanna a “creative partner” rather than just a collaborator for the RiRi Hearts MAC collection. The company has worked with many stars before, but this is the first time they’re working with a famous person for more than just one collection. They joke that “MAC likes to go on a date but doesn’t really want to go into a relationship.” Well, this time they’ve decided to and are even calling their relationship with Rihanna “a long-term one.”

Rihanna seems equally committed to the collections, as she’s a longtime fan of MAC. Of the brand, she says,

“When you think of makeup, the brand that pops into your mind — for something legit — is MAC. Whatever color you want, it’s like ‘Let’s go to MAC.’ I’ve been using MAC on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved makeup, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand.”

The Barbadian beauty says designing makeup also came easily because it’s not that different than writing a song or designing clothing. She loves being creative and wants to channel her creativity in many different outlets. Rihanna believes music opened doors for her to do so by allowing her to express herself as an artist.

Rihanna was given the chance to be very hands-on during this particular creative endeavor. She says she “really got to play” when designing both the makeup and its packaging. There are many different textures and colors to toy with when it comes to eye shadow or lipstick shades, each of which affects how it’ll apply to the skin and what it’ll look like on wearers’ skin tones.

While we’ll have to wait and see what colors Rihanna chose, she did reveal one shade of lipstick that she loves the most. RiRi Woo is her signature piece and will be sold alongside all four collections. It’ll be sold through MAC’s website and also at her upcoming concerts.

We also know what the packaging will look like and what types of products will be included in each of the four collections. After RiRi Woo is first released in the spring, a summer collection will be sold online, followed by a third collection to be released in stores in the fall and a fourth collection to go on sale in stores in time for the holidays. The collections will include more lipsticks, blush, lip gloss, eye shadow palettes, false eyelashes, nail polish, and a makeup bag. Most of the products will be packaged in rose gold and emblazoned with the RiRi Hearts MAC logo.

Rihanna and MAC’s excitement about the collections is only making us more impatient to get our hands on the goods, or even to get a sneak peek at what the products will look like. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for the first sign of the line!
